This course is a survey of some central issues regarding the nature of knowledge, the mind, and reality. Topics to be discussed include skepticism, the analysis of knowledge, theories of epistemic justification, the nature of consciousness and subjectivity, mental causation, dualism, reductive and non-reductive physicalism, proofs for the existence of God, and personal identity.
Four things will determine your final grade: 1) eight “prove-to-us-that-you-did-the- reading” quizzes {15%}, 2) an in-class mid-term exam {30%}, 3) an in-class final exam {25%}, and 4) a 6-7-page term paper {30%}.
